Plug Back Into Your Power - Elizabeth Payne - S5 E10

Coach Mikki Season 5 Episode 10

What if the version of success you built no longer fits, and the real path forward starts with five quiet minutes? That’s where our conversation with Elizabeth begins. She’s an engineer-turned-empowerment coach who helps people plug back into their power by aligning what they want with what they believe, feel, and do each day. We unpack the subtle signs of misalignment chronic unease, constant chasing, an inner no beneath an outer yes and why feeling clearer, not busier, is the truest performance metric.

We dig into her simple framework: name a vivid vision, then empty the “backpack” of beliefs that fight it. Fear shows up for everyone, but it doesn’t have to be the driver. Elizabeth walks through finding the root of a fear, reframing it with evidence and choice, and getting the subconscious on board so action feels lighter. For high-achievers and logical thinkers, we talk about balancing analysis with possibility, replacing the demand for 40 steps with the next wise step, and using small experiments to build proof and momentum.

You’ll hear practical tools you can start today: a five-minute daily quiet practice to sense your own energy and wants, questions that separate your voice from external noise, and ways to treat your past as a bridge rather than a prison. If you’re staring at a comfortable life that doesn’t feel like yours, this conversation offers a path back to clarity, courage, and forward motion. Listen, take one honest step, and tell us what comfort you’re ready to release.

So welcome, Elizabeth. Hey, how are you?

SPEAKER_01:

That was a great intro. I'm excited to chat with you today.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, I'm glad you're here. And uh I love it when I have got other guests on that says, Hey, I've got somebody that is dynamic that you need to have on as a guest. So I want to give a shout out to Katrina. Thank you so much. I love your girlfriend. You are awesome. Uh, thank you for connecting the two of us. So I gotta ask. So I I love what you're doing, and I had an opportunity to look at some of your information. And uh, so I'm gonna just give you the mic and let you share uh who you are and what you do, and and we'll just go from there.

SPEAKER_01:

That's that sounds great. Thank you, Mickey. As you said, I am an empowerment coach, and my specialty is plugging people into their power. You actually always have your power, it's innate, right? You're born with it, but most people are not aware that they've actually unplugged from it. And I myself was that way for a long time. And once I plugged back into it, everything changed. And so did my life journey, my mission, right? My mission became telling everyone about it and then holding space for other people to have that same experience.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay, so give us an out, give us a little bit of insight on what you mean by that, like uh tapping back into your your empowerment, your empowerment. How do you how do you go about that?

SPEAKER_01:

Yes. So for me, my previous life journey was in engineering. I had decades of experience in that career, and I poured everything into that. And I actually thought that I was experiencing my power, right? I thought I was powerful, I had the dream job that I wanted, and other people in my community saw me as a leader. And from the outside, it was like, oh yeah, she's definitely plugged into her power, but I wasn't feeling great, and I wasn't being honest with myself about that. So you'll know if you're plugged into your power or not based on how you feel. If you're feeling great, no, it's not you're feeling great all the time because it's a human journey, right? But you're not mostly feeling not great and feeling unclear and just, you know, not certain. I was always kind of chasing more, but just there was this nagging feeling that it wasn't the path I was meant to be on. And everything was much more difficult than it really should have been. So for me, whenever I learned that my power was actually within, and I began to look at what was happening on the inside, you have to slow down a bit, right? Because oftentimes when you're in that power mode, you're also racing. So I slowed down and began to look at, oh, how am I actually feeling? Am I enjoying this? Right? Like, is this actually what I want to be doing? And also, what were the beliefs that were driving me, the limitations? You know, I was expending so much energy, but it was just this out of control effort with not as much to show for it as really what could have been. So, really, for me, the definition of plugging back into your power is getting back to that place of alignment where you have clarity and you're feeling good.

SPEAKER_00:

Now, did you, since you started out as an engineer, do you I mean, because that that's a lot of schooling, that's a lot to go through. I know how difficult it is because my son, right now, is going to school to be an electrical engineer, and I know what he's going through. And it is it is not an easy journey. I know it's not. So when I know when you were going through that, at the time, did you feel as though that's where you were supposed to be? And then as you got into it, you kind of changed and evolved to bring you to where you are today.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, definitely. And I am a hundred percent certain that every part of our journey is there for a specific reason. So for me, that part of my journey, which lasted multiple decades, was actually a huge catalyst to keep me going, right? To keep me moving forward. It was a bridge, you could say, to this life that I'm living now. And definitely without that, I would not be here. But there was a time where that, to my mind, was a hundred percent what I believed I wanted to do, and I believed I was where I wanted to be. But what happens with the human mind is that you're limited, right? You can only see so many possibilities. So, given the possibilities that I had available to me, that was the best one. But over time, a lot of new possibilities became available. And then it was like, okay, with these new ones now in my awareness, that was no longer the one I was settling for. If that makes sense.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, it does. It does. And the the other thing too is I think a lot of times we have a direction that we're going and that we've worked really hard for. And we we ought to look at it and go, my gosh, I put so much time and energy into this. And I think where people get stuck a lot of times is they don't realize that sometimes this is a great place to be and a good stopping point, but then it's gonna branch out into other areas where you can still grow. And and even if you're comfortable, and I always say being comfortable is the most dangerous place you can be in, but you have to be able to look at, okay, where can I go from here? Or is it a detour? Is this someplace that maybe is my stopping spot? And I'm gonna it's gonna lead me to something else. So, how did that work for you going from an engineer to what you're doing now? Because this is a completely different mindset. I mean, it's completely different.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and you hit it, you hit it on the head for sure. Because a couple of things. One, if there was something that was going to stop me, it was actually the comfort that you talk about, right? Because when you get in that space of this is known, this is familiar, your brain likes it. It feels good, even if like every part of my body and my soul was screaming, no, you know, we're not doing this anymore. This is not the answer. But my brain's like, oh, but we know this and we've done it for so long, and you're really good at it. You're totally right. If you can push yourself to lean into that, okay, what why am I holding on to this comfort and this safety? I do air quotes, right? The safety and the known, everything magical, right, and miraculous is on the other side of that. Now, for me, the other piece was my engineering brain was very logical. So I had to, you know, start to really press the edges of that, first in like a minor way, and then in a really big way, because my logical brain had to let let go a lot for me to be able to experience a lot more magic.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, and that's the that is a huge endeavor because, like you said, you're going from one thing that you know, and that's what one side of your brain, and now what you're doing is more an emotional, not only that you're reaching out, but what a gift that you could go from from doing what you were doing as an engineer and being so analytical and so structured, you know, with things that have got to be there. There really is very, and you tell me I don't know that much about engineering, but I'm assuming there's not a lot of gray area as an engineer. It's pretty black and white, right?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, yeah. And you're right, it's nice. I do appreciate like like going back to that part where we were saying every part of your journey is there for a reason. I appreciate that I have that experience because when people come to me and they're in that logical mindset or they're in that safe and known and familiar area, I have that experience to say, yes, I know what your brain is doing in this situation. Now, as far as, you know, engineering and logic and feeling safe and it feeling known, it really is about just opening up to additional possibilities because your brain is the only thing limiting that, right? And once you can even just crack the door open and say, okay, I don't know what this looks like, but I'm I'm I'm available for something else and something more. That's when you really crack that door open to let other things come into your experience.

SPEAKER_00:

I think the the most important thing that I you tapped into was the fact that you were open to making a choice because a lot of people get stuck. They think, this is it, this is what I did, this is what I'm working for, is I don't know if I'm capable of anymore. And taking a risk is so important. So too many people are afraid to do that, especially with the change. I mean, it's a very dramatic change. And uh so I'm gonna I want to skip ahead a little bit. So when you try decided to uh you know take on something different and move on to what you're doing now, what what what to walk me through the process that you went through to lead you to where you are today?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and like you said, some people get part of it for me was that moment where you're like, okay, I just committed two decades of my life or more to this, right? Like I've put all my eggs into this basket, and you know, your brain will say to you, like, why are you throwing this away? But that initial perspective shift was very much, you know, we're not throwing anything away. One, it's just using those experiences and seeing it as a bridge, but two, understanding that the human journey is meant to be dynamic, right? Like there was this old kind of model, um, this old conditioning of like you pick one thing and you just go for it and you're 50 years later and you finish it, right? And imagine, like now I can look back on that and be like, wow, I can't, I can't fathom that because I've expanded my mind so much in the last 10, 12 years to think that I was just done, you know, learning at that point. No matter where you're at on this human journey, there's more to learn. You can always discover new things. And oftentimes when people are in that where they're like, I've put so much into this, I've got to stay here. It's just because they've forgotten that there's still so much life to experience and so much to discover, right?

SPEAKER_00:

And I think you you just nailed it. And I and I that's the thing I come across a lot too, is people like, oh, I put so much time and energy in this, and I've worked hard, I've done this for years. How can I start something new? How can I just walk away from this? And I think a lot of times people think this is not like, okay, you know, you're cutting the ties of your past or what you're doing right now to jump into something new. There can be a gradual transition to, you know, and still do it because I find that if you're not doing what you love or if it's you're not hitting the ground running when you get up in the morning, you know, with what you're you're going to do each day, then you have to weigh out do I really love this, or am I just going through the motions and I'm letting time go by? And and you have to make that choice. And I've come to that crossroad many times too. But I think where people get stuck is you've got to go, okay, is it worth the risk? And then if it is worth the risk, you got to be able to accept it's gonna be a journey, it's gonna take time, and there's gonna be times you're gonna have to pick yourself up, right?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and it's really one step at a time. Like a lot of times when you're when you're looking like ahead, your brain's like, oh man, that's like 40 steps away. And really like getting out of that big picture mode and just remembering it's literally one step at a time.

SPEAKER_00:

So so tell me what you do when someone comes to you and and was going to work with you and they are going through the same journey like you've experienced, and they're like, I need a change, I need something different. How do you walk them through? By the way, first of all, uh, if you guys are listening on the podcast or you're here with us on the YouTube channel, um, if you would like to uh connect with Elizabeth again, you know the links will be below. And if you're listening to the podcast, just click on her name and it'll take you right to her website. So um uh so what would you do, Elizabeth? If somebody walks in and says, Okay, I need a big change, my life is not where I want it to be, where do I go?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, yeah. And it's definitely different for each person, but the crux of it is always the same. So people come to be and we we nail down a vision. Like where do they see themselves going, right? Like, is it a change in their career? Is it feeling better in their physical body? Is it a change with a relationship or calling in a new relationship? You know, what is the vision? That's the first step. And then the next step is okay, what is in your backpack that is not aligned with the vision? So it's easy for most people, honestly, to connect to the vision. Most people have a great vision that they share with me, but the next step is the key because your brain is either on board with the vision or your brain is not on board. And if your brain is on board, it is a lot, there's more ease, right? The steps are revealed, you can take it step by step and you're feeling good. If your brain's not on board, you're spinning your wheels. And most people, when they get to me, they don't have awareness of where their brain's not on board. So that's where we start. That's that's the big hitter, right? Like that's the slam dunk. So it's get clear on the vision, and then where is your brain not on board? And I have a specific process for helping people to reframe their subconscious to get their their brain on board.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, that's the key. It's mindset. And and the mindset, I think, wherever we come in with or wherever we're where we are, you know, we're meeting people where they are at the moment, is getting them to realize that there's so much more than what they're they're allowing themselves to think about or or to bring forward. Um, so so tell me some of the stories. I mean, some of the things that you find that people maybe struggle with the most, and and how do you help them get over that obstacle?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I would say in like let's say somebody comes to me for a career change, or they, you know, they have a specific vision for what they, even if it's not a career change, something they want to do in their career, that's very common. And normally when we lean into the backpack to say, okay, where is your brain not on board? They have fear. There's fears. It could be fear of the unknown. That's very common, but the fears honestly are different for each person and they're endless. So it's it's very unique. The key with fear though is that most people, they've kind of conditioned themselves to just ignore the fear because they don't know what to do with it. So it's like I don't want to keep, I don't want to keep interacting and engaging with the fear because it doesn't feel great and I don't know what to do with it. So they'll just stuff it, right? They'll ignore it. And when you do that with fear, it's a little a big or little elephant, right? Sitting there, like, I'm here and I'm in your awareness, but you're ignoring me. Where there's actually a way, if you'll look at it, you can find the root of the fear and reframe it. And then actually the elephant will leave. And that's when you feel lighter, and that's when you actually feel like, oh, I can do this, right? That's when your brain gets on board. So it's really looking at the fear and the fear for each person, Mickey, it's so unique because it comes from things they've heard, things they've experienced. It could be from childhood, you know, it's each person has such a unique human journey. That's the beauty of it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, and you're right, because everybody's everybody's journey or experience is gonna lead them to where they are today. And until they actually acknowledge that and look at it and see, okay, where what's holding me back? What is that limited belief that I've got to let go of? You're gonna have a difficult time moving forward. And and I think that's with everybody. And I I one of the things that I I find, even when I when I work with my kids and I see, even at the younger level, you know, you see something they're already attaching a limited belief to, and you have to undo it like right away, because otherwise they will go through their whole life believing that, and it's it's so untrue. But I think sometimes as adults, we just keep carrying it, carrying it, we don't even know why anymore. It's like what or we've had it for so long, and it's become part of our makeup that we just like we've accepted it, and and having that opportunity that you take them through and teach them what it is so they can acknowledge it and let go is a very powerful thing you can do for yourself.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and your brain actually, your brain is your friend. I love to tell people that your subconscious mind is your friend, and it actually will respond to you. So if you're able to reframe something and your brain realizes, okay, that is silly, or that's actually not what I want to experience, it is totally willing to let go. You know, most people make it seem harder than it is, where it's really just that awareness and then, you know, pointing it out to your brain, like, hey, buddy, this is not it anymore. It will say, you know, okay, I'll let go of that. It's really just that step of being able to face it, right?

SPEAKER_00:

And and I think what people have a uh challenge doing is, and again, it goes back to being comfortable. If you let go of that limited belief, now it forces you to have to step up in your own life and make those changes. And you have no more excuses, and you're letting go of the limitation. So and I know people like again, you have to meet people where they are. Yeah, and what do you do when you find somebody who comes to you and says, Okay, I want to do this and this, but then you feel Like they've got lots of reservations and they're having a difficult time letting go or moving forward. I mean, I'm assuming baby steps to get them going.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. And you know, for me, the the one thing that I always talk to clients about is if you're coming to me, you're ready at least from the standpoint to turn the mirror on yourself, right? Because if you're not to that point yet, definitely I would give them like some books to read or some some different things to check out so that they could make those steps forward. But if you're not ready for that step, then we're not, we're not quite ready for our paths across. But you're totally right. It's really, it's not as difficult as it seems like it will be, but it can be so uncomfortable to turn that mirror on yourself because then you're owning it, right? You're taking full responsibility. You can't put it on your journey, you can't put it on someone else, you can't put it on anything else but yourself. That's really the moment you plug into your power, and it's a beautiful moment, but you're right. The person, they've got to be ready.

SPEAKER_00:

And that's when the healing starts. Yeah, it really does. And whether it's healing or moving forward, and you're right. And and I assume that was the case. I just know there's people listening that, you know, have hesitations and reservations. And my thought would be to those that are listening that maybe don't know where to start, that's a great idea. You know, maybe get a couple books or get something that can help you get moved forward. And then once you realize, okay, I've I'm I'm ready to do this or I feel strong enough. And even if you don't, I think reaching out to Elizabeth, she can actually move you in the next step. And even if it wasn't to be ready with her, at least you could give give them a step to move forward or sure. But for those of you that are like, oh yeah, I am so ready to make a change and do this, then I highly recommend you reach out to her and get your journey started, especially with a new year coming. So, you know, I think this is the perfect time to do it. So I know we we've covered a lot of stuff. So I want to ask you, um, do you have any books or things that you've written or things you'd like to share, you know, with with our listeners and our our circle of friends?

SPEAKER_01:

I do have, you know, you mentioned if people want to get started with some books specifically. I have uh a resource on my website that has all my favorite books at the moment that they could check out. That's a great place to start. Now, going back to that point you made about like maybe you don't feel ready, I will say, Mickey, like, you know, it's part of the human experience to not feel ready from the standpoint of like, you know, anything new, it's gonna feel it if if it didn't, everyone would do it, right? Everyone would be on this journey that you and I are on. So there is some natural part of that humanness that you will feel. And that doesn't mean, you know, it's a definite no. It's just, you know, are you are you ready to feel that, right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

And you're right. And I think everybody wants change. I mean, you there's there always comes an element or a time in your life where you're like, there's gotta be more, there's gotta be something different. Yeah, or I I need guidance to be able to move to the next step. And and that's why something like you do is such a gift, because you give that that uh that pathway, that journey, those little steps to be able to move forward and start on that that pathway and that journey to change. Um, yeah, I so I'm gonna, I'm just gonna let you have the last couple of minutes. And can you share like maybe three to five things of things that people could do? They were like, okay, if I was gonna start, what were these changes that I would do, or what would I need to do to even contemplate maybe making a change in my life?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I would say one that for sure comes to mind when it comes to turning the mirror on yourself. One of the first steps, depending on the person's own journey, one of the first things I'll assign as like a homework assignment is to get into your own energy. So for some people, that might be meditation. For some people, it might just be sitting in a quiet room and they don't really call it meditation, right? But there's so much noise these days, Mickey, like podcasting things to watch and people and just all kinds of things that I find people don't really have an awareness of what they're feeling and what their energy feels like. So when it comes to turning that mirror on yourself, you're removing distractions, right? You're saying, okay, I'm not gonna be distracted by this person or that, or get sucked into their story or their words or this or that. So a great first step is to every day give yourself, start with five minutes, you can work up to a lot more, but give yourself time each day to just begin to feel your own energy. And then you can understand how you're actually feeling. You know, that time in my life where I wasn't in my power, I was going so fast and so much, I didn't have awareness of what was actually going on, right? With my own energy. And that was actually one of the first big steps for me was to just turn off all distractions. And it's not comfortable, you know, it's not necessarily fun at first, but it will be it will be worth it for sure.

SPEAKER_00:

That's uh you're right, that's a very powerful step to to do. So, how can people find you? Um, if they're listening to the podcast, obviously, again, like you guys know, the link will be down below if you want to reach out to Elizabeth. But for those listening on the the podcast, or if you're listening to this on your car, you're on the YouTube, how can they how can they reach you? How can they find you?

SPEAKER_01:

My website is elisabethpain.com. Really easy. I am also active on LinkedIn and Facebook and Instagram and YouTube. So definitely check out your preferred path. And yeah, like Mickey said, if you have questions, hit me up. I'm I am all ears.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, thank you so much for being with us today. I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing your insight. It was really fun. Thank you.

SPEAKER_01:

Thank you, Mickey.

SPEAKER_00:
